East Summit Association: Past Meeting & Events

ESA General Meeting - April 25th, 2017 at the Community Center on 100 Morris Avenue.  Featured guests included Khurram Dara, president of the Summit Taxpayers Association, and Mayor Nora Radest. Khurram emphasized the purpose of the taxpayers association is, among other roles, a watchdog organization to insure all Summit residences are represented in taxation decisions.  Mayor Radest discussed several topics. First confirming the 6 rating of Jefferson school, the Mayor stated a better job needs to be done to promote the highlights the school has to offer, especially when new residents purchase homes in East Summit. In addition, the City of Summit is aware of the several zoning violations on Ashwood Avenue near the school.  Sewer issues were also discussed, with improvements implemented throughout the city to alleviate odors and blockages.  A new sidewalk will be constructed under the bridge on Springfield avenue leading to downtown to facilitate flow of pedestrian traffic from East Summit.

The Fall 2016 General Meeting was held on October 27th at the Community Center on 100 Morris Ave. Mayor Radest provided useful information to the ESA on web sites used to rate the Jefferson school.  Currently, Jefferson School rates 38th in a key performance metric among peer schools among well over 1000 schools across the state, ranked among the other schools in Summit (despite a 6 rating on great schools).  Common Council candidates Steve Bowman and Mike Vartan fielded questions from ESA members.  Steve Bowman was elected in November.
